I’ve been exploring some of the very modern worship songs as an old guy 😀. But now, I’ve decided to alternate between very modern hymns, old hymns, and in-between hymns, namely the worship songs from the 60s to the 90s that feature in hymnbooks such as Mission Praise. Today it’s the turn of the in-between hymns.
Today’s song is Bless the Lord O My Soul from the 1973.
I remember singing simple versions of this one in small meetings in the early 1980s. I didn’t realize that it was an Andraé Crouch song. Some of these early choruses used to be anonymous – written by goodness knows who 😀. It’s a very simple song, but sometimes you don’t need much detail to worhip God.
It’s based on a verse from the Psalms:
Psalm 103:1
Praise the Lord, my soul;
    all my inmost being, praise his holy name.
Nowadays, people are more familiar with another song based on the verse – 10,000 reasons by Matt Redmen. But I want all the older “new” songs to be remembered too 😀.
