Hymns: Another One

I’ve been exploring some of the very modern worship songs as an old guy 😀. But now, I’ve decided to alternate between very modern hymns, old hymns, and in-between hymns, namely the worship songs from the 60s to the 90s that feature in hymnbooks such as Mission Praise. Today it’s the turn of the very modern hymns.

Today’s song is Another One from 2024.

This is an interesting one. Chris Brown has a funny haircut, but I don’t see any Biblical commands against funny haircuts 😀. And the title is a little puzzling – another what? He means another miracle. We don’t all believe that New Testament miracles still happen today. Yet, when we pray, we pray for God to act or intervene in some way, and we should be expectant when we pray. So, whatever your outlook on modern day miracles is, we can sing this to celebrate God’s work and to pray that He will bring revival and be active in our lives in all sorts of ways.

Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

For some, unanswered prayer means not getting what we wanted. But God always responds if we pray in the proper way – Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication (Acts) and in Jesus name.

John 14:13-14
¹³ And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. ¹⁴ You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.

When I pray, I express my wish to God. I hope that it aligns with His will, but most of all, I hope that He will listen and grant what’s best for me.

And if I pray like that, I’ll always receive what I wish for – “thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.” What Jesus wants is for us to have faith in God, not faith in faith – thinking that God is just a means to an end of us getting what we want. There’s no harm in telling God what we want, but what we want isn’t necessarily best for us.

I often mention these words from the Apostle Paul:

2 Corinthains 12:7-10
I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. ⁸ Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. ⁹ But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. ¹⁰ That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

The danger is because we discover that God won’t make like easy for us or give us a Mercedes Benz or whatever 😀, we won’t bother praying. We should keep praying, and we should pray with expectancy that God will do the best thing, not necessarily give us precisely what we want.
