I’ve been exploring some of the very modern worship songs as an old guy 😀. But now, I’ve decided to alternate between very modern hymns, old hymns, and in-between hymns, namely the worship songs from the 60s to the 90s that feature in hymnbooks such as Mission Praise. Today it’s the turn of the in-between hymns.
Today’s song is We Have Sung Our Songs of Victory from 1997.
I remember discovering this one back in 2017 – after a long spell of taking little interest in modern worship songs. I discovered lots of songs back then when I bought my acoustic guitar. This one is certainly one of my favourites. It’s very much like a Psalm, where you express your sadness and hope to God.
And it reminds me a little of the secular song Three Lions, which mixed disappointment and hope too. In that song they longed for the England football team to win something 😀.
When we approach God for worship and prayer, our moods might vary from day to day. I’d like to become so familiar with hymns and worship songs that I’ll always find one that fits my mood. Strangely, I could almost use the Three Lions song – not for the specific lyrics but for the mood. We look at the amazing things that God did in the past and long to see something like that in our own lifetime. And of course, ultimately, we look to the return of Jesus.
