I’ve been exploring some of the very modern worship songs as an old guy 😀. But now, I’ve decided to alternate between very modern hymns, old hymns, and in-between hymns, namely the worship songs from the 60s to the 90s that feature in hymnbooks such as Mission Praise. Today it’s the turn of the very modern hymns.
Today’s song is Still from 2003.
This one is inspired by the following Old Testament verse, which has inspired many other songs, such as Be Still and Know That I Am God:
Psalm 46:10
He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”
I read that during the 2003 SARS outbreak in East Asia, the song gained massive traction across churches in Asia as an anthem of comfort and peace. I didn’t know the song back then, but the lyrics give me great comfort. It’s definitely worth getting to know. When we pray, we don’t always know how to express ourselves, but hymns can be helpful as a start.
