I’ve been exploring some of the very modern worship songs as an old guy 😀. But now, I’ve decided to alternate between very modern hymns, old hymns, and in-between hymns, namely the worship songs from the 60s to the 90s that feature in hymnbooks such as Mission Praise. Today it’s the turn of the very modern hymns.
Today’s song is Through it All from 2002.
I thought I already posted this one, but the one I posted was a different song – It is Well, where the phrase “through it all” is sung quite a bit. But this one is actually called “Through it All”. These new songs are very confusing, but I’m trying to get a handle on them 😀.
I was pleased to hear All Hail King Jesus, from 2017, played for Katie Taylor’s final fight a couple of days ago. And she won the fight 😀. 1.6 million watched. I wonder is that more views than my posts get? 🧐
When I was young, people could mention any pop song and I’d be able to tell them the very month it charted. Maybe I should do something like that with all the new worship songs – at least be more aware of them. I think that it might help to look at the lyrics of a few songs each day during my time of prayer. It’ll help me to pray, but also to familiarize myself with the artists and background.
And some videos include guitar chords. So maybe I could learn to play them on my guitar and keyboard – even just for myself if no-one invites me to play at Wembley Stadium 😀.
This one has the general feel of “The Lord’s My Shepherd” lyrically. It’s very much like a Psalm. We shouldn’t see hymns as verbally inspired by the Holy Spirit in the way that we view Scripture. But Scripture does encourage us to bless one another through hymns. There was a time when you needed to be in the same room with someone to be blessed. Now we have such an abundance of resources on the Web. It’s a wonderful time to be alive:

Some people like to sneer at and criticize modern songs. But if a young person shared some encouraging thought in church, I wouldn’t dislike it – even if I didn’t agree with everything that they said. I’d much rather be thankful that they’re encouraging faith in Christ. So I’m trying to subdue the side of me that gets annoyed by anything from the 21st Century 😀.
