I’ve been exploring some of the very modern worship songs as an old guy 😀. But now, I’ve decided to alternate between very modern hymns, old hymns, and in-between hymns, namely the worship songs from the 60s to the 90s that feature in hymnbooks such as Mission Praise. Today it’s the turn of the very modern hymns.
Today’s song is New Wine from 2015.
I’m not very familiar with this song, but I’ve known the word Hosanna for most of my life. Even back when I was a Roman Catholic child, we used to say “Hosanna in the highest” at Mass. But what does Hosanna mean? It means “Save us now! – but for most people, it’s a little like Hallelujah – it’s simply a word of celebration – celebrating the coming of Jesus. That was even the case at the time of Jesus. They shouted the word when He approached Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, and after the resurrection, there’s even more reason to celebrate. The word features in many hymns and worship songs. When I searched for versions of this one, I was amazed at the number of song that feature the word in their titles – and even more have it in the lyrics.
