You’ll Never Walk Alone

Daily writing prompt
Hit 5,000 steps today and drop your achievement here — we’re cheering you on!

It’s quite a normal thing for me to hit 5,000 steps. It sounds like a lot, but it’s just a couple of miles. I always start the day with a mile walk, and weather permitting, I generally take another couple of walks throughout the day. It feels very natural for me, but I realize that it isn’t for everyone. I find it helps me physically, mentally, and spiritually.

Spiritually, I tend to reflect and meditate more when I walk than when I sit still. And walking is often used as a metaphor for your policy and progress in Scripture and in hymns. Here are some examples:

Psalm 23:4 (The Lord’s My Shepherd)
Even though I walk
    through the darkest valley,
I will fear no evil,
    for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
    they comfort me.

Galatians 5:16 and 25
16 So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.
25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit

3 John 1:4
I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.

And here are some hymns that use the walking metaphor:

Perhaps the most famous spiritual song about walking is You’ll Never Walk Alone. It wasn’t written as a hymn – it’s from the Carousel musical. And it became the Liverpool soccer anthem following Gerry and the Pacemakers recording of it back in 1963. But any Christians that sings it will think of Jesus walking with them.

  1. Walking is the best for fitness and health. Daily walking is even more better. I used to walk more but now, not much.

  2. “Some memories never fade. They quietly settle in the heart, becoming a gentle source of peace. Even in silence, they remind us that some people leave behind a warmth that time can never erase. Holding a beautiful memory close is sometimes all the comfort the soul needs. ❤️✨”
