Morning Has Broken

I was trying to remember songs about the morning. The most memorable one for me is Morning Has Broken. That’s actually in one of the most common hymn books in my circles – Mission Praise. It was written by English author Eleanor Farjeon in 1931. It’s interesting that Cat Stevens covered it because he generally wrote his own songs. But his version helped to popularize it. It’s more of a sung poem than a hymn. It doesn’t have specifically Christian content in it. Anyone of any faith could probably sing it. The author wasn’t really religious, though she did become a Catholic later in life.

Psalm 5:3
“In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly.”
