Wonderful Dream

What’s a small moment from your past that you still think about years later?

When I thought of today’s title, it brought to mind and old Eurovision song that won back in 1973. And I’ll include the Irish song from that year too – by the way, I only found the French version of Wonderful Dream 😀:

It’s interesting how the theme of dreams is so widespread in romance songs. But most of my dreams are about minor frustrations, such as trying to reverse into a tight parking spot or being stuck on a high wall and trying to get down. I remember once dreaming that I had a laptop computer – before I actually got one. I was about to wake and figured out that I was in a dream. I started wondering if there was any way that I could hold onto it and bring it into the real world 😀.

But the wonderful moment that I often think about is two dreams that I was in the presence of Jesus. These were 12 years apart. And they happened at times when I felt the need to draw particularly close to God. They weren’t long dreams, and I have no memory of the details. But in both cases, the experience was unlike anything I ever experienced in life. Maybe someone might explain it scientifically – something weird happening in my brain or whatever. And I can’t be sure that there was anything supernatural about it. But even if there’s a natural explanation, thinking of these moments always spurs me on to draw close to Jesus. And I do sometimes here of people around the world encountering Jesus in their dreams – sometimes they knew little about Him before the dream. I think of the following experience that the Apostle Paul had – though he phrased it as if it happened to someone else:

I Corinthians 12:2-4
2 I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago was caught up to the third heaven. Whether it was in the body or out of the body I do not know—God knows. 3 And I know that this man—whether in the body or apart from the body I do not know, but God knows— 4 was caught up to paradise and heard inexpressible things, things that no one is permitted to tell.

Getting back to the Eurovision Song Contest, I was only 11 for the 1973 Eurovision, so Ann Marie David was too old for me – as Maxi (Ireland’s entry). But now, I’m married, and even if I wasn’t, I’d be too old for Ann Marie David. Hang on – maybe she’s older now too 😀. She is!

Here she is from 2024.

Romance adds a lot of magic to life – but I see it as nature’s way of getting us into getting married and having a family. Then it diminishes – but families are fun too. And when you watch a romantic movie, it almost always covers a short period of time. Who’d be interested in Pride and Prejudice Part 2 😀?

But the love of God is eternal. So, I’ll close with a few hymns about God’s love and a couple about spiritual dreams.
