Crossing the Bridge to Life

How do you define success in life?

I can think of careers, finance, relationships, bringing up kids well and so on. Ultimately I want to spend eternity in heaven. That’s success. Of course, I’m not anxious to die just yet, and I won’t need to if Jesus returns soon.

I remember this 1965 song as a child, which was regularly on the radio.

It sounds different to how I remember it. Maybe we created our own version at home πŸ˜€. I never knew the lyrics apart from the title – Everybody wants to go to heaven but nobody wants to die.

I like the fact that we can be assured that we will be in heaven while still on earth. You do get some verses that warn people to make sure that their faith is genuine and to keep the faith and test yourself etc. But there are many verses that speak of being saved and safe here and now. And that, to me, is success, though Jesus gets all the credit, not me. He, and particularly His death on the cross, is our bridge to reconciliation with God.

John 5:24
β€œVery truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life.

I see a list of verses on assurance on quick-answers.com. Over the last couple of years, I often asked AI sites, such as Gemini, about such things but lately it’s telling me it can’t help. Maybe it’s having some copyright issues πŸ˜€. It’s fun to start going back to doing things the old-fashioned way. I should go back further and just read the Bible and memorize verses or their references. I was much better at that in my younger days. The Web has made me lazy πŸ˜€. And if I’m not careful, AI will make me more lazy.

Here are a couple of hymns on assurance:

  1. Interesting that you hit the buffers with Gemini. Maybe you need to reframe the questions? Good to go back to the original Source though.
