Hymns: Beautiful One

I’ve been exploring some of the very modern worship songs as an old guy 😀. But now, I’ve decided to alternate between very modern hymns, old hymns, and in-between hymns, namely the worship songs from the 60s to the 90s that feature in hymnbooks such as Mission Praise. Today it’s the turn of the very modern hymns.

Today’s song is Beautiful One from 2004.

Beautiful One
Lyrics

This one is new to me. Well, we didn’t have YouTube back in 2004, and I took little interest in newer worship songs. But nowadays, I’d like to know every hymn or worship song that has ever been written. I’m just sorry that I never wrote any myself. I wish there weren’t all these people who are so much better than me at everything 😀.

Here’s a verse that’s somewhat related:

Psalm 27:4
One thing I ask from the Lord,
this only do I seek:
that I may dwell in the house of the Lord
all the days of my life,
to gaze on the beauty of the Lord
and to seek him in his temple.

Throughout my life, most songs have been about romance. In my circles, there was nothing cool about loving God or singing about God with enthusiasm. We were all baptised as Roman Catholics, but you’d rarely meet a religious young person. Then, when I met evangelical Christians, they seemed a little odd at first, but I soon grew to like them and become one. There’s always ongoing debate about music styles in worship. Shouldn’t it be just old style hymns? But these days, I don’t care about styles. I probably do prefer the old hymns, but it’s delightful to see people from all over the world praising God. And it’s wonderful that so many new devotional songs are been written.

Here are some other versions of today’s hymn:
