I’ve been exploring some of the very modern worship songs as an old guy π. But now, I’ve decided to alternate between very modern hymns, old hymns, and in-between hymns, namely the worship songs from the 60s to the 90s that feature in hymnbooks such as Mission Praise. Today it’s the turn of the very modern hymns.
Today’s song is Enough from 2002.
I’m not familiar with this one, but my goal is to try to familiarize myself with 300 21st Century songs before Christma. In my daily devotions, I pray, read a chapter from the New Testament, and watch a lyric video of an old hymn, a new hymn, and an in-between hymn. And I can find chords and play the new ones on the guitar too – or keyboard. I’ll need to spend more time throughout the day on the newer ones if I’m to learn them all before Christmas π.
I think I’d have entitled this one “More Than Enough” if I had been Chris Tomlin or Louie Giglio, the guys who wrote it. It’s interesting that it goes all the way back to 2002. I’ve so much to discover. I ignored new songs for about 30 years π. My goal is to enjoy all Christian music and to stop sneering at the modern stuff. I’ll need to find something else to sneer at if I’m to continue to develop my sneering skills π.
Here’s a verse related to today’s song. We’re basically thanking God for supplying all our needs. And that’s about trusting that He knows our needs. He doesn’t always give us what we want.
Philippians 4:19
Β My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
I would think that prayer is primarily about praying that God’s kingdom would come on earth and asking to supply what we need rather than giving us a Mercedes Benz – but maybe some people might have actually needed a Mercedes Benz π. This Janis Joplin song was probably a parody of the prosperity gospel – before the term came into use.
Anyway, here are some other versions of Enough:
