Chesire Cat

If you could pick any fictional animal to be your lifelong companion (like a Pokémon or fantasy pet), what would it be?

I think that I’d pick the Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland. I like how cool, calm, and cheerful he is in such a mad world. And he can appear and disappear at will. I’d like to be more like him 😀. One of my fantasies is to be able to teleport into any part of my own life – or maybe any part of history and move around at will. Or maybe I could be a cheshire cat and visit my earlier selves and be a friend to them. Though I don’t have a cat, I always enjoy seeing them around the neighbourhood.

I don’t read much about cats in the Bible. It’s said that domestic cats were widely kept and revered in neighboring Ancient Egypt. Maybe the Hebrews were uneasy about them because they would have been associated with Egyptian religion and deities. You do get lions and leopards mentioned. In the Bible, Jesus is compared to a lion, for power and strength, and a lamb for his sacrifice. So, I’ll close with two hymns about lions (and lambs) 😀:

Revelation 5:5
Then one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep! See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals.”

And here’s a couple of hymns about being still and not allowing the troubles of life to overwhelm us:

Psalm 46:10
He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”

And finally, here’s a hymn about a lifelong companion – not an animal, and not fictional 😀.
