I’ve been exploring some of the very modern worship songs as an old guy π. But now, I’ve decided to alternate between very modern hymns, old hymns, and in-between hymns, namely the worship songs from the 60s to the 90s that feature in hymnbooks such as Mission Praise. Today it’s the turn of the very modern hymns.
Today’s song is My Hope from 2003.
The chorus expresses our hope being in the name of the Lord. Doesn’t that just mean “in the Lord”? But many hymns speak of the “name of the Lord”, as does the Bible. Even nowadays when we say something like “make a name for yourself”, we speak of reputation, status and so on. So she doesn’t just hope in a generic god figure. She hopes in the Lord as revealed in Scripture. She hopes in Him because of what creation and Scripture reveals about Him. The hymn feels very like a Psalm.
I’m not very familiar with the hymn, but I am trying to familiarize myself with all those 21st Century hymns rather than living in the past all the time π.
But the new hymns often remind me of old hymns, such as this one:
I don’t see many cover versions of the song on YouTube, so today, I’ll include some other “hope” songs – old and new:
