I don’t really cry when I watch movies, but sometimes joyful closing scenes gives me a sensation of tears welling up. It often happens when I watch the Sound of Music – two scenes near and at the end – the wedding and climbing over the mountain:
The movie loomed large in my childhood back in the 1960s. We got the LP record before I actually saw the movie. And some years earlier, when I first went to primary school, we learned some of the songs. I often watch it at Christmas.
I usually like to include a couple of hymns in my posts. Here are a couple associated with Austria – Silent Night, which was written in Austria, and Glorious Things of Thee Are Spoken, which has an Austrian tune – also used for the German national anthem:
