I’ve been exploring some of the very modern worship songs as an old guy 😀. But now, I’ve decided to alternate between very modern hymns, old hymns, and in-between hymns, namely the worship songs from the 60s to the 90s that feature in hymnbooks such as Mission Praise. Today it’s the turn of the very modern hymns.
Today’s song is Jesus Be the Name from 2025.
Sooner or later, I’m gonna run out of very modern hymns to post every three days. Currently, my pattern is “old”, “new”, and “in between”. Maybe I’ll need to change the pattern 😀. But we sang this one in church this morning, and it’s only a year old. There’s something special about every name. But there’s something very special about the name of Jesus. I think of these verses:
Philippians 2:9-11
Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
In Scripture worship of anyone other than God is never tolerated. Yet Jesus was worshipped as an infant, during His ministry, after His resurrection, and in heaven (Book of Revelation). It’s one of the reasons why we regard Him as God the Son, though the word “God” is more often used for the Father. And, likewise, the Holy Spirit is sometimes used interchangably with the word “God”. So, God is Father, Son, and Spirit. And some verses mention all three together. Here are two examples:
Matthew 28:19
Go]therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
2 Corinthians 13:14
14 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen.
Anyway, whichever member of the Trinity you focus on in any given hymn, your are worshipping God. Here are some other versions of today’s song:
