I’ve been exploring some of the very modern worship songs as an old guy 😀. But now, I’ve decided to alternate between very modern hymns, old hymns, and in-between hymns, namely the worship songs from the 60s to the 90s that feature in hymnbooks such as Mission Praise. Today it’s the turn of the very modern hymns.
Today’s song is The Lord Will Provide from 2024.
We sang this one in church yesterday. It’s a wonderful reminder of God’s love to us and how He provides for us in this world and not just the next. I often see this world as simply a preparation for the next world. It doesn’t surprise me that we suffer, no more than any form of preparation involves suffering.
I think of Band of Brothers and all the soldiers having to run up that steep hill 😀.
If I were training for the military, I’d be a bit peeved if the boss told me to stay in bed, thinking that it was all too much for me. Much as I’d dislike running up the steep hill, I’d be proud to have done it.
Of course, there isn’t any place for pride in the Christian life, but we can be pleased with our progress. But all the glory and thanks go to God. And this life isn’t just about suffering. When Paul spoke to pagans in Acts 14, he reminded them of God’s goodness to them – even before they became believers.
Acts 14:16-17
16 In the past, he let all nations go their own way. 17 Yet he has not left himself without testimony: He has shown kindness by giving you rain from heaven and crops in their seasons; he provides you with plenty of food and fills your hearts with joy.”
I think of my own earthly father, who passed away nearly 20 years ago and how good he was to me throughout my life. But I took so much for granted. And it’s the same with my heavenly Father. So, that’s why this hymn means a lot to me.
In my earlier years, we used to sing this song, which has a similar theme. I kinda prefer these older songs, but it’s a joy to see the current generation delighting in God, through newer music. But the message is the same.
