I’ve been exploring some of the very modern worship songs as an old guy π. But now, I’ve decided to alternate between very modern hymns, old hymns, and in-between hymns, namely the worship songs from the 60s to the 90s that feature in hymnbooks such as Mission Praise. Today it’s the turn of the very modern hymns.
Today’s song is Hymns: All Hail King Jesus from 2017.
I used to sing the older “All Hail King Jesus” back in 1981. It was one of my favourites of the newer choruses that emerged from the 1970s charismatic movement.
It’s very tempting to compare the two and to say how much I prefer the song of my youth π. But I’m pleased to see Jesus being praised with 21st Century music. It would be tragic if it were just older people like myself praising Jesus. I became a grandfather this week, so I definitenly am old now. I hope to be 18 again when I get to heaven. I sometimes wonder why it took people a little while to recognize the risen Jesus. Perhaps when you have your risen body, will it match the ideal age, which for me is 18. So, Jesus might have looked 18 rather than 33 after He was raised. But perhaps all our bodies will be very different in the New Heaven and New Earth.
I used to think of modern hymns as more superficial, but anytime that I inspect the lyrics, I find that not to be the case. But I like variety in worship songs. I’m fine with very simple lyrics, but I also like the richer ones, and today’s song is lyrically richer than the older one.
Here are some other versions of today’s song:
