Hymns: Everyday

I’ve been exploring some of the very modern worship songs as an old guy πŸ˜€. But now, I’ve decided to alternate between very modern hymns, old hymns, and in-between hymns, namely the worship songs from the 60s to the 90s that feature in hymnbooks such as Mission Praise. Today it’s the turn of the very modern hymns.

Today’s song is Everyday from 1999.

Everyday
Lyrics

Back in 1988, I remember Morrisey’s song Everyday is Like Sunday. He meant everyday is as boring as Sunday πŸ˜€. At one stage of my life, Sunday was boring. But when I committed my life to Christ, that all changed. And this song encourages us to make everyday like Sunday at its best. But for me, what makes Sunday special is fellowship. I get that in church, but even when I listen to Sacred Sounds, a hymn radio show on Radio Ulster, I feel a sense of fellowship with others. And though some are a little uneasy with web resources, I get a wonderful sense of fellowship when I watch these videos of worship. True, I’m not interacting with the people, but they’re blessing me and I can encourage them by liking and promoting their material. And WordPress.com gives me something similar.

I’m slightly breaking my rules with this one, because I like to categorize modern hymns as anything from the 21st Century. But 1999 is close enough. Way back in 1985, I remember a Prince song called 1999. It felt so distant back then. And way back in 1975, I remember a Paul McCartney song called 1985. We spend so much time thinking about the future, but I feel like I’m in the future now. And it’s great that people are still worshipping God everyday. And contemporary Christian music has improved. Not sure that I can say the same about secular music πŸ˜€, but I can find all my beloved 20th Century music on YouTube in any case. This week, I’m listening to 1920s music – 100 years old – great fun. It’s interesting to see how many song that were still popular in the late 20th Century. One wonders how many 2020s songs will be remembered in 100 years.

Anyway, Here are some other versions of today’s hymn:

  1. I thoroughly enjoyed this!
It’s interesting looking back at songs like 1999 as β€œmodern” now! Time really shifts our perspective.
I like your point about fellowship too. Whether in church, on radio, or online, there are still many ways God encourages us through others. Different generations, same message of worship. Blessings!
