Hymns: You Are My Strength

I’ve been exploring some of the very modern worship songs as an old guy 😀. But now, I’ve decided to alternate between very modern hymns, old hymns, and in-between hymns, namely the worship songs from the 60s to the 90s that feature in hymnbooks such as Mission Praise. Today it’s the turn of the very modern hymns.

Today’s song is You Are My Strength from 2007.

You Are My Strength
Lyrics

What I like about this one is that the style doesn’t differ much from what I would have known back in the 1980s. I can imagine myself learning it and singing it, and becoming really famous – well, learning and singing it anyway 😀. Of course, 2007 probably feels like the old days to younger people, but to me, if feels likes yesterday.

It touches on the following verses:

Psalm 28:7
The Lord is my strength and my shield;
    my heart trusts in him, and he helps me.
My heart leaps for joy,
    and with my song I praise him.

Psalm 30:1
I will exalt you, Lord,
    for you lifted me out of the depths
    and did not let my enemies gloat over me.

I enjoy reading a Psalm and searching for hymns that are connected to it. A couple of years ago, I used to create little PowerPoint presentations on Psalms and related hymns, just for my own use. But I soon realized that I could do it without going to the bother of creating the presentations 😀. But it’s a nice way to study the Psalms.

Here’s Reuben Morgan himself discussing the song:
