I Am Weak But Thou Art Strong

Daily writing prompt
What’s a moment that made you realize you were stronger than you thought?

I can think of numerous scary situations where I surprised myself. Public speaking is one example. I was in a car crash some years ago, and I couldn’t understand why I was so calm. Thankfully, none of us were seriously injured, but it was the sort of situation where we could have been.

It’s almost as if some other forces were at work. You could give a human or divine explanation for such moments. From a human perspective, sometimes something in our bodies kicks in and implements the fight or flight response. That can be a little unpredictable though. We might be in a similar situation and find our body activating the freeze response.

So, I look to God. He doesn’t always intervene and help, but if He doesn’t, He has a purpose in whatever trial we’re facing. And if some moment makes me feel weak and causes me to look to God for strength, that’s surely a positive thing. If I went through life feeling that I don’t need God, where would I be? I know where I’d be in the next world anyway.

John 3:18
Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.

And who knows where I’d be in this world.

My post title comes from the hymn “Just a Closer Walk with Thee.” I can think of many Christian songs that encourage us to look to God for strength, and Bible verses. Here are a few examples:

Isaiah 40:31
but those who hope in the Lord
    will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.

Philippians 4:13
13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Paul isn’t saying that he’s all powerful. I think that he means that he can face all things, and do everything that he’s called to do through Christ. He was utterly dependent on Christ.

And here are some song that encourage me to look to God for strength:

  1. A deeply reflective and thought-provoking piece. The way the ideas have been connected with practical life, emotions, and contemporary realities makes the article both engaging and meaningful. I especially appreciated the balanced perspective and the humane touch in the narration. Articles like this encourage readers not merely to think, but to introspect. Thank you for sharing such valuable insights.
