I like how it’s been here in Ireland for the last couple of days (after weeks of cold and rain). It’s sunny, with a slightly cool breeze. It can get a bit muggy/humid in July and August. The weather is often best in June, the time when I would have been doing exams – wishing I was out in the sun. It’s also nice to get an Indian summer in September. And around now, you can get the occasional sunny day – without the summer humidity.
But there’s no harm in variety, and Ireland wouldn’t be so green without the rain. When it gets a little too hot in summer, I sometimes wish it was December 😀.
Anyway, here’s a hymn about God’s faithfulness, which mentions the different seasons, and one that compares revival with showers of blessing.
Matthew 5:45
..He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.
Weather as Metaphors in Scripture
- Storms as symbols of chaos, danger, or divine power
- Rain as blessing, renewal, or God’s provision
- Wind as the movement of God’s Spirit – His invisible power
- Snow as purity
- Sunlight as God’s favor or guidance
- The rainbow as covenant and hope
- Drought as spiritual dryness or judgment
So, here in Ireland, when we complain about the rain, we should instead be thankful, because rain is good:
Acts 14:17
17 Yet he has not left himself without testimony: He has shown kindness by giving you rain from heaven and crops in their seasons; he provides you with plenty of food and fills your hearts with joy.”
But we love the sun too. So, let’s have both!

Big sunny hug for Ireland
