Here’s a List

Daily writing prompt
What movies or TV series have you watched more than 5 times?

If I’m on my own, I might be more likely to watch a documentary rather than a movie or fictional TV series. And I don’t count how many times I watch something. But I’ve certainly watched some movies or TV series more than five times. Here are examples:

  • All the Star Wars movies
  • All the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit movies
  • All the Harry Potter movies
  • All the Pirates of the Caribbean movies
  • All the James Bond movies
  • Titanic
  • BBC’s Coast, The Ascent of Man, and Civilization
  • All the good movies or TV series based on Jane Austin novels, such as Sense and Sensibility, Emma, and Pride and Prejudice
  • All the movies and TV series based on Dickens novels, such as Little Dorrit, Bleak House, and Our Mutual Friend
  • All the Beatles movies and TV series such as Anthology
  • Most of the Humphrey Bogart movies, such as Casablanca, The Maltese Falcon, Beat the Devil, and African Queen
  • Films set in Italy, such as Room With a View, Tea with Mussolini, and Enchanted April
  • Classic British TV series such as Brideshead Revisited
  • Strumpet City, one of the few Irish TV series that I watch repeatedly
  • Detective series such as Inspector Morse and Monk.
  • Historical series such as the Onedin Line, Poldark, Sharpe and Cadfael.
  • Movies or series based on Anthony Trollope novels such as Barchester Towers, and The Pallisers
  • UK and US comedy shows such as The Simpsons, Dad’s Army, Red Dwarf m Blackadder and Alan Partridge
  • Anything related to Bob Dylan

There are probably many mor,e but these are just some that come to mind right now.

What about Christian movies? I do remember enjoying films based on the life of Jesus, such as Jesus of Nazareth, and some films based on the Old Testament, such as The Ten Commandments. And some modern films such as Chariots of Fire touch on Christian issues. I do sometimes attempt to watch some very modern Bible-related films or series. I like an element of comedy, and you won’t find much of that in Bible films. And it irritates me if they drift too far from the Scripture. But sometimes they give the overall flavour of what life was like at the time. But I don’t tend to watch them repeatedly. Funnily enough, when I watched The Fellowship of the Ring back in 2001, it felt like a Bible movie. I already knew the story, so there was no element of suspense, and little in the way of comedy.

Shakespeare said ““All the world’s a stage, And all the men and women merely players.” So, my life is like a movie, and I do enjoy logging everything and going back over it. So, if my life is a movie, it feels like I’m watching it over and over. And just as I have little interest in modern films, I have little interest in my currently life. I’m more interested in the past. Maybe that’s what happens when you start getting old 😅.

So what song will I end with? I suppose it’ll have to be the theme from Inspector Morse.

Absolutely loved all you listed. Have you seen the series “Chosen”. Seems like you might enjoy that as well from what you listed under Christian movies/series.

    1. Thanks. I should watch Chosen. I’ve certainly heard mention of it. Perhaps it’s a matter of taking time to settle into it. I think I might have briefly watched a few minutes of it a couple of years ago and got distracted 😃.
