The Weather 🌤

Daily writing prompt
What do you complain about the most?

Let me think. Here’s a little list:

  • Media bias, particularly left-wing anti-Christian or anti-establishment bias. I don’t mind intelligent left-wing politicians, but I dislike the sort that are resentful toward the successful and are clearly envious of nations who are more successful, but have been extremely good for Ireland. I remember in the Eurovision, for much of the 1970s, the UK would always give Ireland the highest points, and Ireland wouldn’t give the UK any points. I think that this changed in later years. The lefties tend to hate America and Israel more nowadays. I used to be a leftie once, and they’re not all bad 😄. So, hopefully no-one will chop off my head.
  • Technology – for example, developments such as multi-factor authentication that might be badly implemented. It’s designed to protect us, but I’d like it to protect me without annoying me 😄.
  • The 21st Century – I remember old music, films, TV and compare it with what we have today. I am thankful for so many 21st Century innovations, such as YouTube, but some things don’t seem to have improved. I can watch an old episode of Top of the Pops and remember how magical it all felt. However much I try to familiarize myself with the Top 40 today, I rarely find anything worth listening to. I wonder how much of it is me or if music really has gone downhill.
  • Church life. Because church life has been such a big thing in my own life, I’ve probably often complained. Any group of people with strong convictions will end up having varying opinions and approaches. And all of us humans can be annoying at times. I try to minimize my complaining, but I would be lying if I said that I don’t complain. If you read the New Testament Book of Acts and epistles, you’ll see that even the early church had its fair share of turbulence. Yet, it’s nice to have fellowship just the same. Sometimes I relish my own company more than that of other people, yet I have so many golden memories of all sorts of people.
  • The weather. We often complain just to make conversation. My favourite weather is sunny with a pleasant cool breeze, or winter sunshine. At this time of year it’s either freezing cold or wet. Still, we have a lot to be thankful for in Ireland. We don’t tend to get extremely bad weather. We do get a lot of rain 😀.

Here are two of my favourite secular weather songs:

And here are two “weather” hymns:

And I’ll close with a New Testament passage that mentions the weather…and it reminds me that I need to love the lefties too, just as God does.

Matthew 5:43-45
43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.

  1. Also the Book of Revelation shows how the churches can go wrong. 1st c. Christianity is quite interesting, they were closer to Jesus than we are. I think I’m a bit fundamentalist, albeit a left-wing one. 😜
