An Irish personal evangelistic site. I'm not representing a particular church, but it's broadly evangelical in tone. My aim is to cover topics I've encountered in discussions I've had over the years, mainly here in Ireland..
Well, when I was five, there was Batman, James Bond, and cowboy and war films. Perhaps I would have dreamt of being Batman, a cowboy, or a soldier. The real professions that I might have been more aware of were bus or truck drivers and teachers – and perhaps doctors, shopkeepers and farmers . I … Continue reading Batman?
There are many things that most of us don’t understand. I just picked “salvation” because I spent much of my life trying to understand and explain it. Much of the varying opinions in Ireland were addressed in the debates surrounding the 16th Century Reformation. Are we saved by grace alone, through faith alone, or does … Continue reading Salvation
My last job was in technical instructional design, where I developed IT courses. I’ve seen many changes since I started in that field back in 2001. The biggest, most recent change is artificial intelligence (AI). I’m pretty much retired now. I left my job back in 2022, and soon after, ChatGPT became popular. I do … Continue reading In Many Ways
I’m pretty much retired now, so I don’t have bosses asking me to write up goals or people asking me to do things that would interfere with my goals 😀. So, maybe my answer should be “seldom”. Spiritually, it happens all the time. If your goal is to live for God, you’ll get the unspiritual … Continue reading All the Time
I remember first hearing John Lennon’s Instant Karma when someone lent me the Shaved Fish album back in the mid seventies. It’s Lennon dreaming of an immediate moral cause-and-effect — what you put out into the world instantly comes right back to you. When I used to hear of awful terrorists atrocities in Ireland, I … Continue reading Instant Karma
I like how it’s been here in Ireland for the last couple of days (after weeks of cold and rain). It’s sunny, with a slightly cool breeze. It can get a bit muggy/humid in July and August. The weather is often best in June, the time when I would have been doing exams – wishing … Continue reading Here Comes the Sun
When I think of teachers, I can consider the following: Primary school – Probably my teacher in my final year Secondary school – Although metalwork was the subject that I decided to pursue, eventually training to be a metalwork teacher, I would think that my English teacher was the most influential Third level – Most … Continue reading Wayne Grudem
Back in the spring of 1980, Madness released an EP called Work, Rest & Play. The title was based on an advert for Mars Bars. The phrase stuck with me. It’s all about balance. But I do want to spend more time engaging with God. Whenever I worship or pray, I think to myself, “Why … Continue reading Work, Rest, and Pray
I never saw much point in tattoos. I do remember bubble gum as a kid, where you’d get this piece of paper that you licked and placed on your arm, and it left a temporary tattoo. It might have been called Clown chewing gum, but that was way back in the 1960s. It’s just a … Continue reading Keep Praying
In the context of WordPress.com, if I see someone liking my post, my initial question is which country they come from. So, maybe others see me in the same way – Irish. On the rare occasions in which I’ve travelled outside Ireland, if I met someone in a youth hostel or whatever, I think their … Continue reading Irish
