Hymns: Power of Your Love

I’ve been exploring some of the very modern worship songs as an old guy 😀. But now, I’ve decided to alternate between very modern hymns, old hymns, and in-between hymns, namely the worship songs from the 60s to the 90s that feature in hymnbooks such as Mission Praise. Today it’s the turn of the in-between hymns.

Today’s song is Power of Your Love from 1992.

Power of Your Love
Lyrics

I often mention that I took little interest in modern hymns for about 25 years when I grew to like to old hymns best back around 1990. I decided to familiarize myself with some of them back around 2017, and this is one that appealed to me. It’s all about being transformed by the power of God’s love; our love for Him, our love for others, but chiefly, His love for us. What about self-love? I love what I can become. I don’t necessarily love the part of myself that shuns God or puts Him out of the picture. That’s why I like this bit:

Lord I’ve come to know
The weaknesses I see in me
Will be stripped away
By the power of Your love

Here are three verses that the hymn touches on:

Romans 12:2
2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will

Isaiah 40:31
but those who hope in the Lord
    will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
    they will run and not grow weary,
    they will walk and not be faint.

Psalm 32:7
You are my hiding place;
    you will protect me from trouble
    and surround me with songs of deliverance.

And here are some other versions of today’s hymn:
