My last job, before I retired, was creating eLearning and classroom materials. It’s difficult to say what job I’d do for free. Maybe it’s more a matter of what job I could do. I often feel a little envious of people discussing their jobs, but maybe all jobs have their stresses.
Anyway, I drifted into answering the daily prompt by accident. I was more interested in simply putting materials that I had created for my church site many years ago back on the web. I did tweak and supplement them, but I was just gonna leave it at that. Then, I discovered the daily prompt. I often spend a couple of hours on it, but if I thought that it was any use to people, I might spend much more time on it – maybe even the whole day. It’s good fun. So, I like doing this job for free.
And maybe at some stage, I’ll start charging everyone retrospectively – like Homer did with the elephant.
That bit was a joke by the way π.
But why would anyone want to read my blog when there’s an abundance of excellent resources out there, particularly about Christianity from an evangelical perspective? Well, when I think back to my teens, when I was trying to figure it all out, I always enjoyed hearing the perspective of individuals. And several individuals, both then, and in the years since, had a significant positive impact on my life. I have been blessed by listening to famous people, but also by little conversations or blog posts by ordinary folk that I discovered. And it’s wonderful to feel a sense of interaction with individuals from so many nations.
I don’t know how many people actually read my posts, but many years ago, I used to produce little Christian leaflets. I might get 1000 printed and post them through doors or give them out in the street. Some wouldn’t take them, some would take them but might not read them, some might read them and disregard them. But it was always my hope and prayer than someone would either come to faith in Christ, or be encouraged by them. Even now, if I walk through a town in the UK while on holiday, and I see folk evangelizing, I’m encouraged by it.
And as a reader, posts don’t necessarily need to be religious for me to enjoy them. But if they are religious, I like them not to be purely religious. I like the person to share their views on other aspects of their lives, such as hobbies and so on. So, just for the sake of all you identity thieves out there, let me tell you something about myself π€.
Here’s the first new album that I ever bought – back in 1973 when I was 11. And that’s my title for today.
Perhaps it was Gilbert’s way of telling us all that he didn’t support the violence of Irish terrorists at the time. I don’t see myself as a gifted writer. In my job, it was technical writing and creating exams and simulations of applications for training purposes. I never did much creative or journalistic writing.
But however limited my writing abilities are, I’m expressing myself to the world. And it’s always a joy to have likes from all over the world. I don’t imagine that everyone has time to read my posts, but liking is there way of saying “hi”. And it’s even better when people respond with comments. I should start commenting more on other posts, but I still feel that I’m finding my feet, though I’ve been answering the Daily Prompt for about a year now. I’m a slow learner π.
I always like to include a couple of hymns – so here goes:
