I’ve been exploring some of the very modern worship songs as an old guy 😀. But now, I’ve decided to alternate between very modern hymns, old hymns, and in-between hymns, namely the worship songs from the 60s to the 90s that feature in hymnbooks such as Mission Praise. Today it’s the turn of the very modern hymns.
Today’s song is You Never Let Go It’s from 2007.
The focus of this hymn is God’s help through this life, though it does mention a time when our troubles will end.
And I can see a light that is coming for the heart that holds on
A glorious light beyond all compare
And there will be an end to these troubles
But until that day comes
We'll live to know You here on the earth
The hymn reminds me of the famous “Footprints in the sand” poem. And I found a related song by Ireland’s Daniel O’Donnell.
There are times when we feel that God is absent. You can see that is some of the Psalms. An example is Psalm 44:
Psalm 44
23 Awake, Lord! Why do you sleep?
Rouse yourself! Do not reject us forever.
24Â Why do you hide your face
and forget our misery and oppression?
But ultimately, we need to overcome our fears and doubts and remind ourselves that God knows precisely what He is doing with us and for us.
Romans 8:38-39
38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
And here are some other versions of today’s hymn:
