Well, I think that I’m learning all day every day. But the last formal learning was a Udemy course – The AI Engineer Course 2026: Complete AI Engineer Bootcamp. Udemy has astonishing sales every couple of weeks where you get courses for as little as 10 euro or so. I can’t say that I’ve become an AI Engineer or that I aspire to be one, but I do like to challenge myself and at least become broadly aware of how the world of machine learning and AI works.
Maybe that’s all very boring. One thing that I am about to learn is which cinema I attended to see the Tommy film exactly 50 years ago today. I have a vague memory of it being The Ritz in Cork, but it might have been The Capital. Both are long closed, but I’ve watched the Tommy musical a couple of times over the last few years.
Ah – it was the Capital. I didn’t remember that it was over 15s. I wasn’t yet 15, but I don’t remember anything particularly rude in it though the story was tragic and traumatic, so I can understand why it wouldn’t be viewed as a kids movie.

The only song that I really liked at the time was Pinball Wizard, which Elton John performed. I’ve become acquainted with the Tommy album over the last few years and I love it all. Back in the mid 1970s, I wasn’t really into The Who. Funny thing is that the first time I heard Pinball Wizard was The New Seekers version back in 1973. It was strange for such a group to cover a Who song, but they did a good job.
Here are the videos:
I remember seeing the pinball wizard clip in a newspaper advert some months earlier. I love how The Who themselves make an appearance later in the song.
And here are the New Seekers with Pinball Wizard and a nice gospel song, Meet My Lord:
In spiritual terms, one thing that helps my learning is the Ask NT Wright podcast, and I’ll probably listen to the new Think Faith podcast too. If we’re confident in our faith and in the Scriptures, we shouldn’t be afraid to deal with difficult questions:
Many people just believe or disbelieve without exploring such questions, but when someone is genuinely trouble by something, it’s good to point to possible explanations rather than just tell them to dismiss their objections.
1 Peter 3:15
“But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect,”
