Hymns: All for Jesus

I’ve been exploring some of the very modern worship songs as an old guy πŸ˜€. But now, I’ve decided to alternate between very modern hymns, old hymns, and in-between hymns, namely the worship songs from the 60s to the 90s that feature in hymnbooks such as Mission Praise. Today it’s the turn of the in-between hymns.

Today’s song is All for Jesus, from the 1990.

All for Jesus
Lyrics

I only recently discovered this one. It’s often played on Sounds Sacred on BBC Radio Ulster on Sundays at 5pm. I’m happy to say that Robin Mark is Irish. He’s from Northern Ireland. It has a nice Irish flavour to it. I sometimes think that it would be good if Irish evangelical churches had a more Irish flavour to them. But perhaps they do, given that they’re populated with Irish people. But I’d like to hear more Irish songs, though some might think of Northern Ireland as culturally different. But spiritually, we’re united. And of course, it’s nice to sing songs originating in other counties. In my church, last week, an African lady sang Waymaker, which originated in Africa. And we have people in our churches from all over the world. It would be nice if we heard music styles from various nations in addition to the popular songs that are sung everywhere.

Lyrically, All of Jesus it’s quite short and simple. I like to focus on the chorus.

Jesus, all for Jesus,
All I am and have and ever hope to be.
Jesus, all for Jesus,
All I am and have and ever hope to be

I do hope that it’ll remain popular. So many other songs have been published since 1990, but I’d hate to lose such classics, especially given that they originated in Ireland πŸ˜€.

Here are some other versions of the song:
