Ah fun! I like fun. I think it’s fun. And fun is what I need in January, my least favourite month – or is it February? Roll on March and Easter sunshine 😀. I’ll just write off the top of my head. I’ll choose a few random fun activities.
- Spiritual activities are generally fun for me, whether it’s reading the Bible, listening to Christian audiobooks or hymns or going to church. Sometimes we emphasize it as a duty, which can give the impression that it isn’t fun. But it is fun. And if it isn’t fun, you can make it fun. So much that’s fun might not have been fun before you started forming habits or got acquainted with it. For example, I struggled with classical music until I started hearing it in Inspector Morse. And then I developed a taste for it.
- Music has always been a key component of my upbringing. I listen to it, watch concerts, play several instruments, and enjoy messing around with music production software on my computers.
- Walks. When my daughters were younger, I used to love bringing them on walks. But even now, I love brisk walking. I used to listen to music or audio while walking, but I’m happy with silence too.
- Virtual Reality. Back in 2019, I bought a new graphics card for my computer. On the label, I noticed “VR-ready”. So, I bought a cheap headset out of curiosity. I particularly enjoy applications based around Google Earth and Street View, but games are also fun, particularly Walkabout Mini golf and Demeo. Back in 2019, I went through most of Skyrim in VR too and several other long games. But nowadays, I mainly watch Amazon Prime and YouTube on it, play a handful of the best games, and use some of the exercise applications, such as AudioTrip.
- Memories. On Google Sites, I made a sort of a diary where I list memories of each month or year of my life. I include songs that were newly released at the time, pics, news events and personal memories. I enjoy finding memories to add to it or simply reading it. It’s my little personal masterpiece.
And I’ll end with one of my favourite New Testament verses. The Apostle Paul had performed a miracle in what is modern-day Turkey. The pagan crowd mistook him for a god, and Paul sought to point them to the true God. I’ll bold the little bit that jumps out at me. It’s a reminder that God created everything, and we can thank him for all the fun things in life. Jesus turned water to wine. He wouldn’t have approved of drunkenness, but he certainly approved of fun and social activity. And ultimately the future will be fun for all who trust in him.
Acts 14:15-18
15 “Friends, why are you doing this? We too are only human, like you. We are bringing you good news, telling you to turn from these worthless things to the living God, who made the heavens and the earth and the sea and everything in them. 16 In the past, he let all nations go their own way. 17 Yet he has not left himself without testimony: He has shown kindness by giving you rain from heaven and crops in their seasons; he provides you with plenty of food and fills your hearts with joy.” 18 Even with these words, they had difficulty keeping the crowd from sacrificing to them.
And let me include Inspector Morse (mentioned earlier) and a fun hymn:

Fun doesn’t always mean entertainment.
For me, it’s progress, learning, consistency, creating value, and seeing growth — that’s real happiness 💡📈
