Friday Afternoons

Daily writing prompt
When are you most happy?

Well, it’s a nice time to ask because I’m most happy coming up to Christmas, which is precisely where I am now. In a couple of weeks, it’ll be January 😒. Throughout the year, I’ve always been in the habit of being most happy on Friday afternoons.

Then, I’m close to finishing school or work. I’m pretty much retired now, but the weekend still feels special. Being a Christian, I should say that Sunday is my happy day, but that’s when I always dreaded school or work on Monday πŸ˜„. Maybe I should have become a Seventh Day Adventist. They have their “Sabbath” on a Saturday. Or else, we could move the weekend to Sunday and Monday.

It doesn’t explicitly tell us to have the Lord’s Day on Sunday in the New Testament, but following the resurrection of Jesus (which took place on Sunday), the church chose that day.

I think I should have just learned not to dread Monday πŸ˜„. I didn’t always dread Monday, and thankfully, I don’t need to dread it now. For me, every day is the Lord’s Day, but I do try to dedicate Sunday to spiritual things. Maybe the big thing is anticipation. It’s a little like Christmas. I always find the run-up to it the best bit. It’s the same with holidays. When I was in my last stressful job, I’d be much happier during the last few days of work before my holiday than I would be in the last few days of my holiday going back to work πŸ˜„. I used to hate the “final countdown”.

Here’s a few hymns about the Lord’s Day.

Welcome Sweet Day of Rest
