I don’t really do the shopping in the house. I sometimes like to treat myself by eating chocolate, but for the most part, I’m trying to eat more healthily, so I do pop down and buy fruit a bit more these days. And this is my opportunity to present a rare Pink Floyd song. It was written and sung by Syd Barrett, but Roger Waters is lip synching it in the video 😄. Syd had left by then. I think that I discovered the song around 2000, having been a fan since the 1970s. It wasn’t on any album, apart perhaps from collections of rare singles.

And this Bible verse relates to fruit:

Galatians 5:22-23
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

What does the apostle Paul mean by “Against such things there is no law”? Well, he realizes that people want happiness in life. A sinful lifestyle seems to promise happiness, but you end up creating misery for yourself and others and offending God by breaking his commandments. I think of the awful tragedy that arose from Pink Floyd’s Syd Barrett’s drug habit. And it’s so sad that so many still haven’t learned from the mistakes of the 1960s.

But there’s much joy to be found in life by living a godly lifestyle. Paul touches on that too in Ephesians where he contrasts drunkenness with being filled with Spirit. Clearly, being filled with the Spirit brings true joy rather than artificial joy.

Ephesians 5:18
Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit,
