I’ve never been keen on telephones. In my younger days, I’d use them when I needed to, but I generally avoided them. I always get a bit jittery when they ring. Then, back in the 1990s, when everyone started buying mobile phones, I didn’t bother ๐.

I did get one eventually, probably in the mid-noughties. But I was much more excited about my iPod Touch, in 2007, and my iPad in 2011. Since then, I’ve had smartphones, but I hardly ever use them for phoning. I do interact with my family on social media, but otherwise, I like to interact with people in person, if at all ๐. I sometimes dream of going off an living on Skellig Rock.

I’m a little bit like The Fool on the Hill. I’m odd, but I’m really cool. Who else has had a Beatles song written about them? ๐Seriously, I’m probably not all that solitary, but I do cherish my own company and being alone with God. I have been involved in evangelical churches all my life, but I don’t go there to “network” and find people who might be useful to me. For me, churches are about worship and encouraging each other in our faith.
Hebrews 10:23-35
23 Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one anotherโand all the more as you see the Day approaching.
Here are a couple of hymns about fellowship. Despite the fact that I’m an introvert, I have many fond memories of people both believers and non-believers who’ve brought joy into my life. I just don’t want them phoning me. ๐

Your reflection beautifully shows that true connection isnโt in ringing phones, but in shared faith, silence, and presence.
