Here’s My Top 10

Daily writing prompt
Who are your current most favorite people?

I won’t mention family or friends. I’ll mention those who I might listen to on YouTube, Audible, or podcasts.

I’ll begin with a few secular folk, and then I’ll move on to some Christian teachers:

Someone said, “Whoever is tired of London is tired of life”. I never tire of London, even when I tire of life 😁. This guy, Joolz, does excellent videos on the different districts of London. Back around 2009, I used to listen to Robert Wright’s podcasts on London walks.

You can only find these now at Walkingworld. I downloaded them all years ago. Sometimes, I listen while walking around London on Wander on my Oculus 3s. I also enjoy WatchedWalker.

I started watching Abbie Barnes walks about five years ago. And I also enjoy Wilderhope Adventures. Generally, I just walk around my housing estate. Feels a bit boring, but I make up for it by watching walks in beautiful places on YouTube.

Geoff and Vicky did All the Stations in 2017. I used to watch them on sunny days in the back garden before starting work, while drinking my morning coffee. They did Ireland a couple of years later. They do have various new series, but I still love the old ones.

John Shuttleworth is a comedy character created by Graham Fellows (Who played Jilted John back in 1978 😁). He did various shows, which are available on BBC Radio. He’s hard to explain, and he wouldn’t be to everyone’s taste, but we love him in my house.

Alan Partridge is another comedy character played by Steve Coogan. I think that he’s the only person who makes me laugh out loud.

Paul Barbato creates the Geography Now videos. I focus on a different country every day, partly to pray for it, using Operation World, and partly to learn about it. And to do the latter, Geography Now is so useful. I also watch tourist videos about my daily country.

One way in which I’ve changed in recent years is that if I have a choice between someone who is very closely aligned to my theological outlook and someone who is just slightly aligned to my outlook, I don’t automatically prefer the one who is very closely aligned. I’m more interested in someone who is engaging, who challenges me, and who provokes me to think. So, in specific details, I might not agree with everything that the following guys say, but I do broadly agree, and I thoroughly enjoy listening to them.

I often mention Wayne Grudem in this blog. I’ve read various systematic theologies over the years, but I always find Grudem’s material most accessible. I like to listen to him on Audible. I first bought the book in 1995. Then, in 2007, I discovered his free online audio lectures on the book. You can still hear them on his site. Or you can get your first book free on Audible, and pay a small price for the second. His book is split into two. It’s long 😁.

For church history, I’ve listened to Mike Reeves on various sites over the years. I never knew what he looked like until I started watching him on YouTube recently.

I enjoyed Justin Brierley on the Unbelievable podcast over the years. At some stage soon, I want to go back to the first one and start listening all over again. A related guy is NT Wright, who I was introduced to through Justin Brierley.

I became a huge fan of David Pawson as a new believer back in 1981. In later years, I discovered preachers who were more aligned to my theological outlook, but I still have a great affection for David Pawson, though I don’t always agree with him. But I don’t always agree with anyone. All his old talks are free on dpawson.co.uk.

If I’m to label myself theologically, I would call myself reformed. So, here are 12 other preachers/teachers that I would regularly listen to. Again, I feel under no obligation to agree 100% with everything they say, but they’re very much in my camp theologically. They probably would all frown at my silly blog, but love them just the same. 😁
