Dance into the Light

Daily writing prompt
What is your favorite form of physical exercise?

Sorry for the boring answer, but walking is my favorite form of physical exercise. I have tried broader home exercises, but I tend to get bored and lose motivation. But it helps if I integrate it with listening to music.

I do have an exercise bike, and I also enjoy exercising in virtual reality (VR). Not everyone likes wearing a VR headset, but I like being able to jump into immersive environments. There are a good many fitness apps available. I generally avoid any that require subscriptions, but not all do. The Meta Oculus 3s costs around 300 euro. I use it for virtual travel, playing golf, bowling, pool, fishing, and shooting baddies in addition to fitness. I avoid any games that cause dizziness or nausea, but many are pleasant to play. At least I think so.

My current favorite is PowerBeats VR. You can load your own mp3s, and punch objects that come towards you. Or you can use the built-in music. It also includes walls and objects to avoid, but I usually turn them off πŸ˜€.

Another cool one is xFIT World of Dance. This gives a more versatile range of motion, and you need to follow the moves of the instructor. It’s quite exhausting, but that’s the whole point πŸ˜€.

These are the modern equivalent to Jane Fonda’s workout albums. Back in 1982, I never bothered with any of that stuff. I do remember my sister playing the tape. Now that I’m getting old, I’m a bit more aware of the need to maintain good health. And you can make fitness fun.

I like to touch on music and Christianity in my blog. One of the tracks that featured on Jane Fonda’s 1980s workout tape was Can You feel It by the Jacksons.

And here’s a 1996 song from Phil Collins, which I used as the title for this post. It isn’t a Christian song, but that would make a nice title for a Christian song. Heaven rejoices when a sinner repents. Maybe there’s even dancing in heaven.

Could you choose worship songs and dance to them? Maybe some might think it irreverent, but there is a biblical basis for dancing. I’m not sure if I’d like to do it in church, but what’s to stop you from doing it at home? The kind of churches that I would bond with most are those that sing the old hymns, but at times, I’ve attended churches that are happy to dance as they worship. At heart, I’ve always been conservative and uneasy about innovation. And I never like any kind of public fitness. I hate people shouting at me πŸ˜€. But at home, isn’t it better to dance to uplifting music instead of listening to someone singing “I’m good, yeah, I’m feelin’ alright Baby, I’ma have the best f***** night of my life

Psalm 150:4
β€œPraise him with tambourine and dance; praise him with the strings and pipe!”

We Want to See Jesus Lifted High
The Whole Earth Rejoices and Praises God
Living is Such a Joy
Above All

Having said that, I currently only use secular music in fitness. It’s very common to despise enthusistic happy people. I remember even feeling like that about Up With People when I was a child. But nowadays, I’m getting interested in all kinds of Christian music, and I don’t get annoyed when I see happy people. We have enough misery in the world. What’s so funny about peace love and understanding?
