Catch a Train to Cork

Daily writing prompt
What’s your #1 priority tomorrow?

My number one priority tomorrow is to catch an early morning train to my childhood home, Cork. That’s my short answer – stop reading now if you don’t want to hear my stream-of-consciousness waffle πŸ˜€.

In recent months, since I started it, my blog is generally high on my priority list each day. I wasn’t expecting that to happen. I’m wondering how long it’ll last, but I’m enjoying it. I love giving and getting “likes”. I don’t know how many people read it, but giving or getting a “like” feels like saying hello to a random person across the globe. And that’s something that I enjoy immensely.

River Lee, Cork, Looking Towards Patrick’s Bridge

Currently, I’m going through every country in the world alphabetically. Each day, I pray for a country and watch a few YouTube videos about it. That’s something else I look forward to each day. Again, I’m getting a lot more joy out of that than I expected. I’m even looking forward to getting to the end and starting all over again. Today’s country is Gabon.

I always try to weave music and the Bible into my posts. Music is easy.

The following song would never have been my kind of music, but as I’m getting older, my tastes are widening, and anything that reminds me of my childhood is welcome, especially if it relates to Cork city.

The Banks of My Own Lovely Lee

What about the Bible? Cork is strangely absent from the Bible πŸ˜€. One would have thought that it would have all started in Cork, but seemingly, the Garden of Eden was somewhere in the middle east or north Africa. There are various theories, but none of them mention Cork πŸ˜€. Well, we were well and truly gentiles living in a distant land. But they eventually got to us, having followed this command by Jesus:

Matt 28:18-19
Then Jesus came to them and said, β€œAll authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”

What about hymns about Cork? Well, I don’t imagine that hymns mention cities apart from Jerusalem and perhaps Babylon, but I was reminded of one hymn that I associate with Cork in my Music Memories: 1972 post.

It was recorded in Cork in 1972, but made the Irish charts in 1973. At that time, I was big into glam rock – Slade, The Sweet, David Bowie, T-Rex, Garry Glitter etc. But I did like this hymn. I saw the old album in a charity shop recently. The old cover was different. Maybe I’ll find it and make it the featured image on this post πŸ˜€.
