I was a very fussy eater as a young child. I didn’t like meat or vegetables. I do fondly remember desserts, particularly apple tart and red jelly and ice cream. In the US, I’m told that jelly is known as Jell-O. So perhaps I should say Jell-O and ice cream π.

One of my early memories was visiting my cousin’s home and discovering that instead of red jelly, they had green jelly. I was astonished that such a thing could exist. It’s a long time since I’ve eaten jelly and ice cream, but I’m looking forward to having it again.

And I was very fond of Smarties too as a child. Perhaps I could mix these in with the jelly and ice cream. I might even contact my cousins and discover how they managed to obtain that green jelly π§.
So how do I add a Christian message to this post? I could mention the Lord’s Prayer, where it says Give us this day our daily bread, or Man does not live by bread alone but by everyone word that comes from the mouth of God.
But this post is really about desserts. The closest I can get to jelly and ice cream is honey, which is probably much healthier too. Psalm 19 compares God’s word to honey.
Psalm 19:10
They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold;
they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the honeycomb.
The closest New Testament reference to desserts might be the miracle of Cana where Jesus turned the water into wine:
But desserts and sweets are part of creation and we thank God for them. In this present world, so many fun things turn out to be bad for you.
Thankfully, that won’t be the case in Heaven.
Revelation 21:4
“He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
