Pressing On

What I like about Pressing On as a tagline is that I can apply it to myself, whatever mood or state I’m in.

I think of the words of the Apostle Paul when he looked towards his future resurrection:

Pressing On

Phil 3:13-14
Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

Throughout his epistles, Paul emphasizes that we don’t work for our salvation. Christ has won it for us on the cross. In one sense, we can rest easy. But we still need to face life here on earth and everything that life throws at us. He doesn’t beam us up to heaven right away. And life can feel like running a long marathon. But we can be confident that we will get there. Sometimes we might be full of energy. Other times, we feel weak and feeble. But as we persevere, we find new energy.

Isaiah 40:31 – “But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary.”

I’ve known Bob Dylan’s version of Pressing On since June 1980, but I just recently discovered this version by Alicia Keys. It’s a wonderful song.

And here’s another two on a similar theme:

Higher Ground
Running the Race With the Lord
